The tomb of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King was built with 750 huge stones

Having a history of more than 2,000 years, the tomb of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King  was built with 750 huge stones. Wooden boards were paved at the bottom of the chamber. Walls of the chambers were built with flagstone. The whole coffin chamber looks very huge and is separated by two stone gates. Inside the tomb, visitors can see the Jade Burial Suit was specially designed for the king's corpse. Stretching 1.73 meters (1.89 yards) in length, the garment was made up of 2,291 pieces of jade with silk thread. The custom to dress the dead in jade originated from the belief that jade could keep the corpse from getting rotted off. Of the tens of burial garments found in China, this one was the earliest produced in history.  Are you ready for Canton fair 2013? Welcome to Museum when you come to Guangdong for Guangzhou Fair.

The architecture style of this imperial tomb is one of the highlights, which, the experts claimed, is superior to that of in many other imperial tombs. Besides, foreign articles excavated in the mausoleum indicate that Guangzhou was an ancient Marine Silk Road starting point. For example, there are five African elephant trunks, a silver box featuring Western Asian silver wares, and bronze incense burners and frankincense from Southeast Asia.
The overall layout of the museum is centered on the ancient tomb and is built along the mountain combining with the steep slope and the trend of the hill. The layout realizes the combination of the comprehensive exhibition building, the ancient tomb preservation area and the thematic exhibition building, and the emphasis of the dignity of the ancient tomb.   The tomb of the Nanyue king is the most attractive scene in the museum. It is the catacomb of Zhao Mei who was the grandson of Zhao Tuo, a general of the Qin Dynasty, who unified the Lingnan area. Zhao Mei was the second king of the Nanyue principality which set its capital in Panyu in the early Western Han Dynasty, and entitled himself Emperor Wen. The tomb has a history of more than 2,000 years and is the earliest large mastaba with colored mural paintings in Lingnan area.
